What is the Difference Between Fire-Resistive and Fire-Protective Glazing in Doors?
Fire Protective Glass compartmentalizes smoke and flames, but does not prevent radiant heat transfer, while Fire Resistive Glass prevents transmission of radiant heat. Nationally recognized testing laboratories such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL) or Intertek Warnock-Hersey perform fire-testing in specially-designed facilities that are equipped with monitoring equipment to evaluate the performance of the glass as part of a fire assembly. Read our Technical Article – What is the Difference Between Fire-Resistive and Fire-Protective Glazing in Doors for more information.
Where Should Vision Lites be Mounted in Doors?
Yes, we have an informative article that shows where vision lites are allowed on a door. ADA Guidelines for Positioning Vision Lites in Doors.
What are Minimum and Maximum Product Sizes?
We have included the minimum and maximum sizes on our product submittals, along with product specifications and options.
How do I Size my Order?
Vision Lites, PAKS, Miniblinds and Louvers for doors are ordered by the door opening size.
Glass Ordered for a Vision Lite – please consult the submittal for the vision lite model to determine glazing size. Sizes can vary from ¼” to 1” under order size.
Glass Ordered for Other Uses – glass order size is the actual size.
Velo Privacy Screen – for Vision Lites, order size is intended to completely cover the vision lite, so measure from the outside edges of the vision lite. Velo for sidelights has two installation options, so see the submittal for complete information. Submittal must be completed and signed for all Velo orders.
What is a PAK?
A PAK is an order that includes vision lite and glazing with tape applied that is individually packaged for convenience. Some products such as our hurricane vision frames, are always sold as PAKS. You might see a PAK option offered on our submittal, or you can make up your own with any vision frame and glazing.
